Ground screws create stable foundations without the need for concrete. They’re used for extensions, conservatories, garden rooms and modular buildings, and are particularly useful where speed, access or protecting the surrounding garden matters.

Yes. When correctly specified and installed, ground screws provide strong load-bearing support and immediate load capacity. Because they anchor into stable ground below the surface, they’re unaffected by the surface soil movement and frost action that can damage shallow concrete foundations.

Typically much faster than traditional foundations, often within a day. And because there’s no concrete curing time, the build can start as soon as the screws and base are in place.

All three are foundation systems that deliver reliable structural support without conventional concrete footings. Although the names are often used as if they mean the same thing, each system has a distinct design and may be recommended for particular soil types or build specifications.

They work in most ground conditions, including clay, sand and sloping or uneven sites. Clay in particular can be a problem for shallow concrete foundations, as it swells and shrinks with the weather, whereas ground screws anchor below this movement. A site assessment confirms the right screw length and layout for the conditions.

Helical piles (also known as helical screw piles) tend to be specified where a project calls for an alternative foundation approach for example, where ground conditions or the structural loads involved need a more specialist engineered solution.

Yes. Durabase is compatible with both ground screw and helical pile foundations, providing a fast, efficient and dependable base for a wide variety of building projects.
